Happy First Day of Spring! Arizona Wildflowers

What exactly is the first day of spring anyway? In the United States and the rest of the northern hemisphere, the first day of the spring season is the day of the year when the Sun crosses the celestial equator moving northward (on March 20th or 21st). This day is known as the Vernal Equinox.

This past weekend we woke up at 5am and after some quick showers we were on our way to Phoenix for an early wildflower hike. What usually is quite pleasant weather for the area, we arrived to find Phoenix an inferno at 7am – just in time for our hike.

I’d asked Facebook where to go for the best wildflower hiking and the responses were: Granite Mountain, Apache Wash Trailhead and Wind Cave Trail. We chose Apache Wash and at 7 am the parking lot was nearly full with hikers, bikers and runners. It was a a perfect learning opportunity for our two pups that are in the middle of a leash training regiment. It was a little difficult priorities, or physically juggling the camera and leash itself but still managed to get some great shots.
