It was really fun to shoot these portraits of my friend in the aspens in Flagstaff. I’m so used to shooting in the starkness of the canyon with little to no big trees to block light in anyway. After scouting the light earlier that week I noticed a huge difference in the quality of light and the amount of available light in these heavily treed conditions. Effectively sunset was an hour earlier than the canyon where less vegetation leads to more available light.
I think it was good for me to get out and shoot somewhere new. Though the canyon is always a challenge no matter how many times you shoot it, there are always some variables that you can count and I don’t want to become complacent. It was really fun to shoot in flagstaff and in the peak of the autumn color, those aspens really glow in the afternoon light.
