Wedding in Secret? Here’s How to Elope at Lake Powell

Where to Get Married

I am a big fan of leaving the crowds behind so while Horseshoe Bend is near to the lake, it’s pretty popular for something so meaningful and I prefer some quieter locations. Here’s how to elope at Lake Powell!

Alstrom Point – My very favorite location is Alstrom Point. It’s views are completely unparalleled. This viewpoint has some considerations though. You will want 4×4 to access the point. Vicky and Paige actually loved that part of their elopement. There is a lot to see along the dirt road out to Alstrom Point and it’s a lot more fun with the right vehicle. You can do a little glamping or camping at the point, if you fancy yourself an “adventure” elope-er 🙂 You’ll need a permit to get married here but it’s not too hard to obtain.

Slot Canyons – the Upper Antelope Slot Canyon just reopened. But as of 2019 they no longer allow weddings or wedding photography in the Antelope Canyon. There are a few other secret slot canyons in the Lake Powell area that might provide the right spot. Most intimate setting for an elopement, of two-four people, but they are only accessible with a Navajo Guide. There is one company that I like to work with. It is as private as it gets and also tours a view of Horseshoe Bend that is only accessible with these guys.

Lake Powell – All of the Marina’s offer locations for small weddings but I prefer the idea of being in the natural landscape. I like to paddle into Antelope Canyon from the lake. And from Antelope Point Marina to the mouth of the Antelope Canyon is only a 3mile paddle. It’s beautiful to have the slot canyon to yourself, if you are lucky. It’s a lot more visited now because the main slot canyons were closed for so long. Ideally, we would rent a couple of power boats. And we can drive around the lake for a good quiet spot to exchange some vows.

Where to Stay

Lake Powell in Arizona offers a rich tapestry of outdoor scenery, and the best places to stay are the ones that let you soak it all in. If you want to experience the area’s natural beauty, consider staying at the safari-style Under Canvas Grand Staircase. Sweeping views of the Canyon Rim Plateau make you feel miles from anywhere, while modern conveniences like king-sized beds, hot showers, and in-tent wood-burning stoves offer all the comforts of home. 

Or, if you love the idea of glamping, Shash Dine puts you in close proximity to the Navajo land and millions of stars to light the night sky. Choose from a Bell Tent, cabin, or covered wagon, then rise and shine to a camper’s breakfast before enjoying a day immersed in nature. 

What to Do

You’ve said your I Do’s: start making memories as a couple with some of the best thrills and sights in Arizona. Horseback riding is one of the best ways to explore the desert landscape. Take a guided horseback tour on the Horseshoe Bend Trail and soak in the beauty of the Navajo nation.  

Or if you prefer to leave the land behind, head to Lake Powell for kayak and SUP rentals. When the water level is high enough, you can paddle all the way to Antelope Canyon. Or, if you want a completely different perspective of the Grand Canyon and Lake Powell, book a scenic flight with Westwind Aerial Tours. They’ll pick you up at their Lake Powell departure point and even customize a tour just for you and your love!  

Where to Eat

Celebrate your special day with a romantic dinner for two at one of Lake Powell’s tastiest restaurants. The Blue Wine Bar in Page, Arizona is focused on small but shareable plates, funky decor, and a generous collection of wines. If you’re craving sushi, Blue Buddha Sushi is the best in town. Cozy upscale digs pair well with traditional sushi recipes made with modern twists. Or, if you prefer dinner with a view, it doesn’t get better than the waterside dining at Latitude 37. Dubbed Lake Powell’s “floating restaurant,” this boat-turned-restaurant is accessible by land and water and boasts indoor and outdoor seating. Take in the views of Wahweap Bay, Navajo Mountain, and Castle Rock while you eat your fill of gourmet burgers, pizza, and wings.
