When Hillary emailed me about shooting her engagement proposal in action, I immediately said yes. It was October when she first messaged me and I took a couple days to respond back. I was completely flattered by her response, “I’ve been checking my email everyday, so happy to hear back from you! I’ve been looking at your photography page and I decided if I couldn’t get you then I was just going to skip having a photographer, haha! Anyways, I forgot to mention I’m proposing to a woman, I hope that you are open minded in that sense.†After learning that I would be photographing a lesbian engagement at Grand Canyon, I was completely onboard.
Lesbian Proposal – Love is love!
I am a very open person and believe that all people should have the right to marry whomever the love. After marriage equality/ same-sex marriage making history in the United States in 2015, I am happier than ever to provide this service at Grand Canyon.
I offered Hilary a few options for her engagement proposal and although Shoshone Point is a more secluded spot, she decided she wanted to propose there. She told me that as soon as she started reading the notes she had prepared that Kim would immediately know and she liked the idea of proposing at Shoshone Point even if I was obvious to Kim why I was there.
I told Hilary how to get to Shoshone Point as the parking lot remains unmarked and this spot is a secret spot known more to locals and visitors. I saw them pull up and immediately started down the trail. There is a mile long trail through the woods to Shoshone Point and one can’t see the canyon until the very end, a really special surprise for anyone’s first canyon visit.
Finally
I watched them see the Grand Canyon for the first time and then it started. Hillary put her arm around Kim and started reading from the note that she had prepared. Tears and a kissed followed shortly after and Hillary and Kim celebrated their engagement at Shoshone Point.
