Thanksgiving at Grand Canyon – Photography by Terri

The week before Thanksgiving at Grand Canyon, photography by Terri – It was a bust holiday week for Grand Canyon National Park, too. It was so much busier than I’ve seen in a long time but this was the first time I was at the forefront of visitor contact in a very long time. I’d lost my dream job as the photographer and social media coordinator for the Grand Canyon Association, now Grand Canyon Conservancy in March. Not wanting to part with my life at Grand Canyon, a life I’ve lived since June of 2009, I resolved to work at a small coffee shop just outside the entrance of the National Park in the Town of Tusayan and run by the Red Feather Lodge. The week before was a quiet, a lull before the busy Thanksgiving week. This November at Grand Canyon was exceptionally busy and I was booked with portraits, weddings and surprise engagement photos – November 6,8,12,14,16,17,18,20 and 21st. The coffee shop was a little understaffed for the pickup in holiday visitation to the South Rim and I worked the open shift nearly everyday before photography sessions on the rim. The few nights that I didn’t have photography sessions booked, I made a run back to Flagstaff to upload photos for people. There is virtually no real internet at Grand Canyon – No fiber optics at all. I rushed around and finally things slowed for me just after Thanksgiving into December at Grand Canyon.
