What I love over and over again about a couples adventure is the fact that we never capture an identical experience. Even though I’m returning to the same spots for these Grand Canyon National Park photos, the season, weather, and the couple themselves provide a fresh take on the views. This couple’s chosen adventure was a Grand Canyon honeymoon session in celebration of their recent marriage!
An Adventure Can Come as a Surprise Even to You!
It was actually Elizabeth’s mother who set up this Grand Canyon photoshoot as a surprising and unique wedding gift. This meant that I didn’t get to know the couple as much as I usually do from my client onboarding process before the session. Having not spoken to Elizabeth or Joe much already, it was really fun getting to know them better as we walked around during their Grand Canyon honeymoon shoot.
Elizabeth was attending the University of Oxford in England when she met Joe. They first talked after he volunteered to join her in a group project during one of their shared classes. I asked if that was a coincidence, Joe smiled, and admitted that he had noticed her from across the room. The project was merely his excuse to walk over and meet her!
At this, Elizabeth laughed and shared that he had also caught her eye. Elizabeth recalled that she noticed him noticing her before the space between them actually closed in. After meeting, they went out for the first time and immediately entered into a dating relationship. After being together for about six weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out and Elizabeth returned home to the United States.
Their long-distance relationship went on for the next few years until they were finally reunited when they moved in together at a home in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Following their wedding, they were ready to explore and celebrate their recent marriage through a Grand Canyon adventure.
The Best Ways to Spend a Grand Canyon Honeymoon Adventure
When meeting up with my clients at the park, I usually tend to identify them by their car. In this case, the couple arrived by way of the Grand Canyon Railway train. It’s a romantic way to arrive at the Grand Canyon!
They had a dinner reservation at the nearby El Tovar Hotel which is one of the Grand Canyon Arizona hotels that I definitely recommend. You can celebrate your marriage there via dinner or an overnight stay. Joe and Elizabeth had considered doing a sunrise session followed by a hike. We made things easy instead (while still getting some trees in their shots)! Their session was tied to their dinner time by capturing these Grand Canyon photos close to the hotel at sunset.
Although you can’t see the sun setting over the horizon line in the Grand Canyon Village area, there are still some beautiful views as the canyon is illuminated from the side with an array of pastel colors. With my expertise in the weather and timing of the sunset, we caught the best sunlight and colors at this Grand Canyon honeymoon session.
