Unique Wedding Day Experience on The Grand Canyon Railway

By plane, train, boat, walking, hiking or driving–we will get you to your wedding adventure! These two chose the uncommon route of arriving at their Grand Canyon wedding location by train! I was pleasantly surprised by how well the day came together despite the many literally moving pieces! Hop on board for this once-in-a-lifetime experience of a wedding via the Grand Canyon Railway.

Ways to Have a Wedding By the Grand Canyon Railway

As your Grand Canyon wedding photographer, it’s my job to know the details to getting married at this national park. I love sharing both my expertise and excitement for your events inside of the park. When Keely and Brian made the decision to include the train–I was all in!

The Grand Canyon Railway train is the most romantic way to arrive at the park! Dating back to its maiden voyage in 1901, the train provides daily tours starting from Williams, Arizona, just 30 miles west of Flagstaff. The couple was able to both arrive and depart from the train station even though we had to squeeze it all into a three-hour window for their wedding events.

Luckily, there was a ceremony location within walking distance which saved time by eliminating the need for shuttle buses. It was also a Sunday during the craziness of spring break which usually sees a large influx of park guests. To avoid these crowds, the staff allowed Keely and Brian to have their first look in a private train car. This was after they got ready together on the train with their son, Ephraim which was so unique and fun!

Upon arriving, we were fortunate to have overcast weather with some beautiful clouds to help balance the bright midday lighting. Their ceremony was held at a site that overlooks the historic Grand Canyon Village and the Bright Angel Trailhead that goes into the canyon.

On the way back, the train conductor permitted us to take photos on the back of the train. The feeling of being out in the open car as the train was moving is indescribable and was a real highlight!

Bringing Your Loved Ones for the Grand Canyon Railway Adventure

Most of the couple’s twelve guests consisted of those that had never been to the canyon before. It was my goal to make the most of their time! I provided a scavenger hunt for them to enjoy as they waited for the couple to appear.

Their journey landed them at the ceremony destination where they looked for fossils until the couple and Ephraim arrived after the Grand Canyon Railway journey. What followed were personal touches and details created by the couple and their wedding officiant, Sarah Kay.

Keely and Brian worked with Sarah Kay who custom made southwest scenes in copper for the pockets of the mens’ jackets. A multi-talented addition to my team, she also made the bouquet for Keely! As both their officiant and planner, she organized the couple’s gluten-free cupcakes, champagne and other details.

Keely once worked for goodr sunglasses and asked them for a discounted collection to share with her wedding party. They ended up sending her a box of limited edition yellow and orange Grand Canyon National Park goodr sunglasses. Everyone got to wear a matching pair!

With a “just married” sign and a shower of bubbles on their return ride, the Grand Canyon Railway provided a magical trip for the entire day!
