How to Make A Full Day of Plans: Things To Do in Page Arizona

I love it when a single area provides everything you need for amazing photos. A place like Page Arizona, is a centralized hub that offers the activities and spaces for a photoshoot any time of year. Whether it’s going off-the-beaten-path or visiting a major tourist attraction, I find that the possibilities are endless. These are some of my favorite locations to capture and top recommended things to do in Page Arizona!

Things To Do in Page Arizona: Where to Begin

When looking for things to do in Page Arizona I always recommend starting with Lake Powell. It is a unique destination located both in Northern Arizona and Utah in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Not far from Grand Canyon National Park, Lake Powell was originally formed by the Colorado River being damned by the Glenn Canyon Dam. With Lake Powell’s proximity to other local landmarks, it makes it an easy starting point for any vacation in the area.

A tour of Lake Powell will show that it’s a beautiful location year-round. In the summer, you can rent a paddle board and go into the slot canyons of Antelope Canyon from the lake itself. This portion of Antelope Canyon is part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Unlike Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon on the Native American Reservation, you can go into this region without a guide. You can also get a guided tour by kayak, or just rent a kayak or paddle board and go by yourself!

The city of Page, Arizona is a fully functioning town that provides all of the necessary resources before sending you off into more remote locations nearby. When opting for a Lake Powell elopement or proposal, the town has nice restaurants perfect for a celebration!

Best Page Arizona Restaurants

  1. Rainbow Room: the fanciest, yummiest place in town and definitely my first recommendation. Food and service is always great!
  2. Sunset 89: specializes in Island Pacific Rim cuisine. It’s all really tasty and a little fancy still too.
  3. El Tapatio: has a casual hometown feel with the best Mexican food in town, and I would argue the world’s best margaritas.
  4. State 48 Tavern: has a steak house menu that always has a yummy special. It has a bar attached so it’s definitely more casual.

Recreation & Off Roading at Lake Powell

You can also kayak around the lake on your own and pack it in for an overnight adventure. No permit is necessary to camp on the shoreline of the lake if accessed by boat. There is also car and RV camping at Wahweap and primitive camping at Lone Rock Beach. If you want to enjoy going into the water, then I recommend going late April through late October when it’s warmer.

Some of the best views of the lake can actually be found on an off-roading adventure. The route is insane and it looks like you’re riding on the moon along the way. There are all kinds of rocks and colors and strange landscapes. Then you pop out at this expansive view with reflecting water!

Sunrise to Sunset Things To Do in Page Arizona

You can easily go to two different spots for sunrise and sunset sessions in this area within the same day! I would suggest taking a nap at your hotel if both locations are done in Page in a single day. Another route is doing sunset at Lees Ferry or Horseshoe Bend followed by sunrise at Lake Powell the following day. I just love capturing the sunrise at Lake Powell!

Other sites can work for either time of day including Cathedral Wash Trail at Lees Ferry which involves some scrambling over ledges and dropoffs. A more remote site like The Toadstools Hike in Utah is also good at either sunrise or sunset. It is well described as an “easy, flat 1.5-mile hike exploring otherworldly geological sandstone formations.”

  • Buckskin Gulch: “One of the longest continuous slot canyons in the world it passes roughly 16 miles.”
